Let’s Restore Decency and Level Playing Field in Our Traditional Strongholds: Razak Kojo Opoku Writes

Let’s Restore Decency and Level Playing Field in Our Traditional Strongholds: Razak Kojo Opoku Writes

For the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to cross over the 8-year cycle, it is important that the newly elected Regional Executives of the Party, especially in the two traditional dominant Regions of the party namely the Ashanti Region and the Eastern Region should ensure that they restore decency and level playing field for all people who have interest in contesting as Member of Parliament.

It is my expectation that, the newly elected Ashanti Regional Executives led by Chairman Wontumi will put the necessary measures in place to ensure political equity, fairness and equality in the following constituencies:
1. Fomena
2. Asante Akim Central
3. Subin
4. Kwadaso
5. Asante Akim North
6. Manhyia North
7. Kumawu
8. And any troubled Constituency in the Region.

Also, it is my expectation that the newly elected Eastern Regional Executives led by Jeff Konadu would equally put the necessary measures in place to ensure political equity, fairness and equality in:
1. Akuapem North Constituency(also known as Akropong Constituency).
2. And any troubled Constituency in the Region.

Philip Addison, who rose to fame during the 2012 election petition hearing at the Supreme Court was frustrated and subsequently disqualified from contesting the Akuapem North seat(aka Akropong seat) ahead of the 2020 Parliamentary election.

Now, it seems that the same impediments and frustrations are putting in the way of Samuel Awuku fondly called Sammi Awuku, and Michael Bediako who are separately aspiring to contest the Parliamentary Primaries of the NPP in the Akuapem North Constituency(Akropong Constituency) ahead of the 2024 general elections.

If the current Member of Parliament has really done well for her Constituency, I don’t understand why her people should be frustrating the election of new Constituency Executives with multiple Court Injunctions.

Our success largely depends on the quantum of votes we are able to garner from our two traditional Strongholds in 2024.

I would like to urge the newly elected Regional Executives for the other Regions to ensure political equity, fairness and level playing field for all Party’s members who have interest in contesting the Parliamentary Primaries.

Lastly, I would like to beg all the newly elected Regional Chairmen of the Party to spearhead the agenda of addressing all outstanding issues, concerns and grievances within the Party especially at the Constituency and Polling Stations level. We need United front and cooperation to cross the 8year cycle curse.
