Learn To Respect Women- Chairman Wontumi Slams Bagbin For Disrespecting Ursula

Chairman Wontumi has cautioned Alban Bagbin to immediately render an apology to Ursula Owusu-Ekuful for the harsh treatment he meted out to her in the chamber of Parliament.

The Ashanti regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako has said the Speaker of Parliament must learn to respect women.

On Tuesday, November 28, there was a heated altercation between Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the minister of communications and the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin.

“Minister, do you really listen to yourself when you are talking? If you were here from the very beginning before we started, why did you say no, when I asked if you were here from the beginning… This is not the Ministry of Communications, this is Parliament. Resume your seat.” Speaker Alban Bagbin said.

But Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako aka Chairman Wontumi responded that the Speaker remains his good friend but goofed with the way he disrespected the female legislator in public.

“He has to respect women. As humans when you don’t understand something you ought to ask questions. He is a noble friend and a brother but the way he spoke to her we don’t have to tolerate it. He undermined her confidence and that is something which is bad”, he said.

Chairman Wontumi explained that just like all other legislators are entitled to ask questions on the floor of parliament, Ursula reserved the right to ask questions on behalf of her constituents.

“She is there because of her constituents just like all other MPs. He (Bagbin) has to go back and apologize. She didn’t say anything wrong for him to disgrace her. He is my friend and I respect him so much, he is a veteran in parliament so he should know how to treat women”, Chairman Wontumi said.
