Kurt Okraku has been re-elected as President of the Ghana Football Association during the 2023 Elective Congress held in Tamale on Thursday.
Okraku, who stood unopposed, secured a remarkable show of support from the one hundred and twenty (120) delegates present at the congress. In the voting process, President Okraku received an impressive 97.5% of the total votes cast, totalling 117 votes in favour of his continued leadership. Only two delegates voted against his retention, while one delegate abstained from the vote.
This resounding mandate reaffirms Okraku’s position as the head of Ghana’s football governing body and reflects the high level of confidence that the delegates have in his leadership.
Notably, George Afriyie, who was the only candidate initially expected to challenge Okraku, was disqualified from the race. The elections, originally scheduled for September, had to be postponed to Thursday, October 5, due to legal issues.
An injunction filed by King Faisal is still pending resolution, with the court setting October 12 for the hearing. Additionally, George Afriyie filed an injunction in a Ghanaian court and petitioned the Court of Arbitration for Sport after being disqualified from the presidential race.
Despite these legal challenges, the GFA proceeded with the elections, with President Okraku receiving an overwhelming endorsement from delegates.
