The MTN Mobile Ghana has honoured its Mobile Money Merchants and agents for their commitments, contributions and support to make it a household name even in the face of economic challenges.
Mr. Shaibu Haruna, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Mobile Money for MTN, at the dinner and Awards night in Kumasi explained that, the honour is to say thank you and rewards 59 merchants and agents.
According to him, their hard works have held the brand high from operational areas toward achieving transition in its MoMo Services to a full business platform as part of broader ambition for 2025 strategy.
He said solid services would be introduced in the coming years to advance customer experience as an evolving mobile financial tool.
The top performing Vendors received Motor Bikes, Smart TVs, Laptops, and CCTV Cameras, with Kingdom Books Stationary at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) campus in the Kumasi metropolis as the overall best MoMo Agent took home Ghc50,000 electronic cash (E- cash) and motorbike.
In 2009, MTN Ghana set out to redefine the course of Ghana’s financial sector with the launch of MoMo and after 10 years of implementation, this e-financial mechanism has become a major bug in homes and the business community in general.
The service has 11.3 million subscribers with 250,000 agents and 200,000 merchants across the country.
Mr. Haruna attributed the successes over the last decade to the critical contributions of merchants and agents.
He described the financial year as a difficult one with the introduction of E-levy as well as the challenges customers had with accessing their MoMo wallets during the SIM barring exercise.
He said their resilience as a people has enabled them to soldier on and today, they are to celebrate their achievements and strategize for next year.
The top three awards were picked by Kingdom Books Stationary as the Overall agent, First Runner Up, Second Runner Up were picked by Mr. Nti Adjei Samuel from Kumasi and Sibaweh Nasibatu from Tamale also took home Gh¢20,000.000 E-cash, a motorbike and Gh¢ 10,000.00 E-cash and a motorbike respectively.
