Ksi: Traders Lament Poor Patronage Of Food Items Ahead Of Eid-Ul-Adha Celebration
Some traders at the Kumasi Central Market have complained about the slow patronage of food items for tomorrow’s Eid -UL- Adha celebration.
According to them, business is not booming as compared to the previous years.
In an exclusive interview with Wontumi News, the traders said that the COVID-19 affected the business.
A business woman, Ramatu explained that during the preparation for the festival last year, Muslims were buying items unlike this year.
“Last year things were tough but this year’s own surpasses,” she said.
Eid-ul-adha is the Muslim festival celebrated to honour the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son Ismail (Ishmael) as an act of obedience to God’s command.
(The Jewish and Christian religions believe that according to Genesis 22:2, Abraham took his son Isaac to sacrifice.)
Before Ibrahim could sacrifice his son, however, God provided a lamb to sacrifice instead. In commemoration of this intervention, animals are sacrificed ritually.
One third of their meat is consumed by the family offering the sacrifice, while the rest is distributed to the poor and needy. Sweets and gifts are given, and extended family are typically visited and welcomed.
This year’s eve will begin in the evening of 19 July and ends in the evening of 23 July.
