Kotoko: Chairman Wontumi Plays Role Of “An Assist” To Have Adako Jachie Road Fixed
Multi millionaire and a sports enthusiast, Chairman Wontumi has waded into the affairs of Kumasi-based football club, Asante Kotoko, by offering a useful suggestion towards addressing a major concern of the top club.
Chairman Wontumi whose attention was drawn to the deplorable nature of the main access road to the Kotoko Training Complex at Adako Jachie stressed that, the management of his darling club has critical duty to perform.
“I wish to strongly suggest to the Kotoko management team to immediately contact the Ashanti Regional Directorof Urban Roads to draw his attention to the urgent need to improve the road.” He said
Wontumi Sports Programme head, King Eben, who brought to the attention of Chairman Wontumi the dusty nature of the Adako Jachie road used the occasion to solicit his personal intervention in fixing it.
Chairman Wontumi who demonstrated his willingness to help give the important road a face lift strongly advised that, the club’s management should tread the path he has proposed.
“I will come on board the moment management has finished their first assignment.” He said
On the big issue of an early completion of the Kotoko training grounds project, Chairman Wontumi again offered a suggestion to the Kotoko management to initiate a fund raising project.
“A “Yibima”’ project will surely enable management to raise the needed capital to complete the delayed project.”
He continued that, the fund raising should not be limited to only cash gifts but the donation of building materials like cement to augment whatever efforts would be put in place to solicit public support.
Chairman Wontumi who is yet to make any noticeable investment in sports may be using his occasional appearances on ‘King Eben’s Sports Programme in recent times as an “Amicus Curiae” to warm himself up to pull up a dumbfounding surprise to the sports fraternity.
A sports pundit who has closely been monitoring from the sidelines, Chairman Wontum’s emerging new love for sports especially, with respect to his recent pronouncements on controversial sports related issues said this could be an indication that the fabulously rich businessman “is waming himself up to take the football arena by storm.”
According to him, just recently, Chairman Wontumi questioned why a team like Kotoko could not engage the services of the world’s greatest footballer Lionel Messi.
“To the ordinary person, buying Messi to play for Kotoko is clearly an utopian dream but to Chairman Wontumi whose wealth is calculated in billions signing Messi to play for Kotoko is a task easier to accomplish than for a camel to go through the eye of a needle.”
The sports pundit added that by spending time these days to talk sports first on King Eben’s early morning programme before delivering his popular daily “political sermons” on Wontumi TV/Radio which has given him a huge international following, Chairman Wontumi’s newly found love for Sports is suggestive of something big in the pipeline.
“I believe that the unpredictable tough political master planner has spotted gold somewhere in football which no body is privy to…. And do you blame him? After all he is a prominent miner and it’s only in sports that gold can be won as a prize .I think naturally, he easily gets attracted to gold. King Eben has to keep Chairman Wontumi busy in disclosing his hidden sports agenda. I believe he has a message which is golden up his sleeve. Let’s wait and see.” He noted.
