KNUST Students Demonstrate Abnormal Increase In Hostel Prices
Some students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) today, 16 July 2021 had a peaceful demonstration on campus Kumasi.
They claim the hostel prices or fees are surging and it’s becoming unbearable.
Demonstrating peacefully on campus with placards, they urged stakeholders to come to their aid.
These prices are dependent on the number of people in the room.
Wontumi News checks showed that four people occupy a room as maximum.
Price ranges as follows;
1 student in 1 room- GHc 7000 to GHc 10,000.
2 students in 1 room- GHc 3500 to GHc 5000
3 students in 1 room- Ghc 2200 to Ghc 3500.
4 students in 1 room- GHc 2000 to Ghc 3000
The students claim not all students are privileged enough to afford the current price range of the hostel in and outside the KNUST campus.
They say, “most hostels are not worth the prices charged for them and old hostels increase prices without any maintenance.
New hostels are taking advantage of the market to charge at a higher rate”
They emphasized that the prices or fees are too high for 9 months and they called on stakeholders to come to their aid.
