KMA Boss Reveals Biggest Challenge Of COVID-19 Fight In The Metropolis

Kumasi Mayor, Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi has said that, President Akufo-Addo deserves a profound commendation for the exemplary leadership he has so far displayed in the fight against COVID-19.

He said that, the emergency health Committee that the President formed which also has on board the security agencies aided the fight.

He said that, Ghana is a blessed country and that it’s through God’ abundant mercy and the able leadership of the President that have done “the magic” in controlling the COVID-19.

He said that, Ghana’s achievements have earned her a lot of international respect with some countries e making regular references to her successes in the fight against the COVID-19.

He affirmed that, Donald Trump, the President of the U.S, a highly industrialized country, joked with the disease and it has caused a great harm to his image

According to the KMA Chief Executive, who spoke in an exclusive interview with Oheneba Nana Asiedu on Wontumi Radio and TV the mandatory quarantine and testing also helped to control the spread of the virus in the Metropolis.

Hon. Osei Assibey regretted that, some people were totally against the initial measures adopted by the government to control the spread of the pandemic but admitted that “ these have nonetheless yielded the desired results.”

“What also helped in the fight was the bold decision by President Akufo-Addo to close the country’s borders.”

However, according to Hon. Osei Assibey, controlling the inflow of people into the Kumasi Metropolis became a big challenge.
“Over 1.5 million people troop to Kumasi Central Market to trade on each normal day because it is the biggest market in West Africa. So in a situation like this, it is not easy to control human movement.”

He noted that, in the midst of the constraint, controlling the spread of the virus was not an easy task ch “but fortunately for us things did not go out of hand, the overcrowding notwithstanding.”
But Hon. Osei Assibey said that, the closure of the various markets to be disinfected and fumigated, which became part of a major national exercise are a major contributory factor in the control of the spread of the COVID-19 significantly.
