Lead researcher for Academic Patriots, Dr. Smart Sarpong has called on both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) to settle on a flagbearer who has been part of decisions taken at cabinet levels.
Dr. Sarpong in an interview on Wontumi TV which was monitored by Wontumionline.com, stated that any individual who has the desire to be President of Ghana, should have at least served at cabinet before.
He contends that every major decision taken to steer the affairs of the nation comes from cabinet and used the opportunity to advise some NPP aspirants who have been cabinet ministers before, not to shy away from the contributions they have made at that level.
Turning to the NDC, he stated that former President John Mahama and former Governor of Bank of Ghana, Dr Duffuor have both cabinet experience so are okay to slug it out for the flagbearership position of the NDC.
Per Dr. Smart Sarpong’s assertion, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong doesn’t make the cut to be flagbearer of the NPP because he doesn’t have the cabinet experience.
On the part of the NDC, Kojo Bonsu and businessman, Ernest Kwaku Krobea also don’t make the cut because they haven’t attended cabinet meetings before.
