Justice William Atuguba (Rtd) will die and get buried with disgrace, a seasoned legal luminary is predicting.
Lawyer Maurice Ampaw has slammed the former Supreme Court judge for openly disagreeing with a directive from the Supreme Court to the Speaker of Parliament to refrain from decalring the Agona West, Suhum, Amenfi Central, and Fomena seats vacant.
The action by Justice William Atuguba (Rtd) is a “disgrace” to the bench, lawyer Maurice Ampaw opined.
“You are a serious disgrace to your colleagues at the beach”, he said before adding that he expect the retired Supreme Court Justice to die a disgraceful man.
“You will die and the disgrace will follow you”.
Lawyer Maurice Ampaw challenged Justice Atuguba to seek the national interest rather than a political and selfish interest.
“If you don’t change your legacy and look for the national interest it will follow you in your death”, he pointed out.
The opinion shared by Justice William Atuguba (Rtd) on the impasse at Parliament wasn’t weighted with any legal authority, lawyer Maurice Ampaw said.
As someone who has served at the apex court, lawyer Ampaw stated that he expected Justice Atuguba to be circumspect and not seen siding with a media house like TV3 to rundown active Supreme Court judges.
“You reduced Sir John and Sammi Awuku to nothing when they came before you. You are downplaying Chief Justice Torkornoo and others by joining the public to say they are wrong. You are on air to support TV3. You couldn’t justify your point by legal authority. You are only interested at the camera. You spoke like an ordinary person not a jurist”, he said.
He therefore cautioned Justice William Atuguba (Rtd) to emulate the posture of former Chief Justices Georgina Woods and Sophia Akuffo who have avoided making open statement about the issue.
Lawyer Maurice Ampaw is calling on the Judges Association to condemn Justice William Atuguba (Rtd).
“Shame unto you, you have disgraced the bench”, he said.
