Jay Bahd Taken Off Nominees’ List Of VGMA New Artiste Category

Jay Bahd, a member of Kumasi based Asakaa Boys has lost the chance of grabbing the VGMA award for Best New Artiste following the Board’s cancellation of his nomination today in a press statement.

The revocation of his nomination comes two weeks after Austine Woode, a member of the VGMA Academy made a petition that he doesn’t qualify for the category.

In a report by myjoyonline.com, it stated that Austine later disclosed on Joy Entertainment Unpacked that he took the move because Jay Bahd had previously being nominated in the Best Collaboration of the Year with Sore featuring Yaw Tog in 2021.

According to the scheme’s definition, the Best New Artiste is adjudged by the Academy, Board, and the General Public as the most promising and talented emerging artiste(s). The award goes to a relatively new artiste(s) who released a single EP/Album that establishes the public identity within the year under review.

“One of the submissions made, which has generated high public interest, is Jay Bahd’s inclusion in the Best New Artiste category. After deliberations, the Board agrees that Jay Bahd is not new to the scheme because of his shared nomination on Yaw Tog’s ‘Sore’ for Collaboration of the Year in 2021.

“This means, he’s not eligible as a nominee for the Best New Artiste category of the 24th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards. The error has been corrected, and Jay Bahd and his team have been informed accordingly. The inconvenience is deeply regretted,” the statement noted.

The review has been possible following a one-week provisional window that the Board introduced for this year’s scheme to address pending issues.

Jay Bahd, real name, Jackson Kwadwo Bawuah was nominated in the New Artiste of the Year category with artistes such as Ewura Abena, Lasmid, Chief One, DJ Azonto, Malcolm Nuna and DJayat this year’s event which is scheduled for the Grand Arena of Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) on Saturday, May 6.

In the meantime, the grand finale of the 24th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards is slated for the 6th May, 2023 at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday, May 6.
