There has been discontent in the media following the bold declaration by Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang that she is not ready to serve as “mate” to former President John Mahama in the event he wins the 2024 election.
The issue has become topical again because Mr. Mahama once classified himself a mate to the late former President John Evans Atta Mills.
Jane’s approach is different and a signal the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is ready to have “two captains on the ship”, a view shared by an ace broadcaster Gordon Asare-Bediako.
“The moment you hear a mate say he or she is not a mate but I am also a driver, know that there is trouble in the car. In every trotro, there is driver, passengers and mate. Under no circumstance can we have two drivers, if you have a mate saying he or she is a driver, then that person doesn’t respect”, he explained.
A joint view shared by Kwaku Dawuro and Daasebre Agyei Dwamena were that Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang knows the running mate of NDC will soon die so she doesn’t want to be considered a spare driver.
