It Was An Honour To Lead State Funeral Of Jerry Rawlings – President Akufo-Addo
President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says is was such an honour for him and his administration to lead the State Funeral held from Sunday the 24th to Wednesday, the 27th of January 2021 to celebrate and honour the life and service of the late former President of the Republic, Jerry John Rawlings.
Interacting with the widow (Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings) and family of the late former President at the Jubilee House, when they paid a courtesy call on him today the 18th of February 2021, President Akufo-Addo said he happy that the family and his government joined hands to organize the State Funeral of the late statesman with dignity and decorom.
“It had been my strongest of wishes that we will all work together to give this man who made such a big impact on the lives of all of us in Ghana and in our history, a biffitting funeral and a dignified exist” President Akufo-Addo stated.
“Being the current occupant of the chair(the Presidency) , i thought it was my particular duty to make such that that was done” the President added.
Pledge of Committment
The President irritated the commitment of his administration to offer any form of assistance to the family of the late former President. He indicated that his doors are opened and will continue to be opened to them at all times.
“I want you to know that I continue to have a positive set of feelings towards him and his family and towards all of you. Whatever that can be done to assist in securing the wellbeing of all of you, I am prepared to do my part and that is the assurance that I want to give you” President Akufo-Addo said.
Leader and Members of the Delegation
Ambassador James Victor Gbeho, the leader of the delegation conveyed the appreciation of the Rawlings and Agbotui families to the President and by extension, the people of Ghana for giving the late Jerry John Rawlings, a biffitting State Funeral.
The delegation that paid the call on the President also included Col. Joshua Agbotui, Dr. Zanetor Rawlings, daughter of the former President and Member of Parliament for the Klottey Korle Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, Yaa Asantewa Agyeman Rawlings, Amina Agyeman Rawlings, Madam Sefa Deenzer Agyeman and Kobina Andoh.
