Unlike the barbaric manner in which the National Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) subjected Dr. Duffuor to for simply requesting for the album to be used to select the flagbearer of their party, the New Patriotic Patriotic (NPP) has furnished every presidential aspirant with an album two clear weeks before they hold their elections, Paul Yandoh has said.
Mr. Yandoh praised the executives of the NPP for blazing the trail and showing the NDC how clean elections can be conducted in a dignified manner devoid of insults and bias.
Despite August 26, 2023 being the day for the NPP’s special delegate to elect five of the 10 aspirants to contest the NPP flagbarareship for election 2024, Mr. Yandoh, stated on the Wontumi Morning Show that every contestant has been given an album to assist them in their preparation.
He connected it with what happened in the NDC before they recently elected Mr. John Mahama as their flagbearer for the 2024 elections.
Dr. Duffuor pulled out of the NDC flagbearership race after initially filing an interlocutory injunction to stop the NDC primaries.
The NDC flagbearer hopeful had cited anomalies with the NDC electoral album for his suit.
According to him, his party is not ready to conduct a free and fair election. Speaking at a press conference, the Former Finance Minister said: “As at this time, the party has begun distributing the ballot papers to the various regions and constituencies without our involvement. I wish to reiterate my commitment to the party and grassroots, however, my concerns that the party is not ready to conduct free and fair elections is evident for all of us to see” Dr Duffour said.
“Taking part in such an event will be akin to knowingly drinking from a poisoned calabash. After consulting with my support base nationwide, I have been left with no choice but to withdraw as I cannot contest in an election blatantly flawed with irregularities regardless of all my effort to draw attention to the same” he added.
