“I’m A Multiethnic Ghanaian That’s Why I’m Passionate About Ghana” – Dampare

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has told the Parliamentary Committee probing the leaked audio tape that he is passionate about the work and Ghana due to his multiethnic family background.

Appearing before the Atta Akyea led Committee, that is probing the alleged plot to remove him (IGP) from office, Dampare said his commitment to the service is beyond what others do, explaining that he is a multiethnic Ghanaian from Begroo, Akropong, and Nkonya Worupong in the Oti Region.

Furthermore, Dr. Dampare strongly refuted claims that he had engaged in secret dealings with the former president, denouncing such allegations as falsehoods. He asserted his commitment to carrying out his duties without bias or prejudice, stating, “I’m a policeman who is not into politics. I’m not into politics, I’m a professional police officer, and I don’t do such things.”

When questioned about the appropriateness of an IGP interacting with the former president, Dr. Dampare clarified, “The position of Inspector General of Police, and by extension, every police officer is to serve the good people of this country, of which the former president is one of those. And there’s nothing wrong with that.”

When asked by the Committee whether the former Northern Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Daniel Bugri Naabu, lobbied for him to be appointed IGP, Dampare said no.

The Committee posed that question, based on testimonies by some previous witnesses, but the IGP said that those testimonies were untrue.
