Chief Executive officer (CEO) of Public Sector Reforms, Thomas Kusi Boafo has questioned flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani on his recent pledge to scrap academic fees for first year tertiary students if he takes the reins of government.
Expressing skepticism on the policy, he asked if the programme was going to benefit only Public tertiary students.
Former president, John Mahama on 12th August promised to abolish academic fees for first year Tetiary students when he emerges winner in the upcoming election.
Reacting to this in an interview on Wontumi TV, on 15th August, 2024, Mr Boafo said Mahama will be bias if he considers only Public Tertiary students.
“Mahama has no financial estimate about his free Tetiary. He doesn’t even know the number of students who will be enrolled. So even if, you want to abolish the academic fees for public tetiary students, what about the private students? The private Tetiary institutions have about 40% of the student population. Will Mahama discriminate among Ghanaians? ” He asked.
He described Mr. Mahama as a “reckless populist” stating that his intention is to gain popularity with his deceptive comments.
