The Chief Executive Officer of Public Sector Reforms, Mr. Thomas Kusi Boafo, has disclosed that he signed documents to increase the price of passports in Ghana and ward off the activities of ‘goro’ boys who were benefiting at the expense of the state.
He explained that the move is also to ensure the passport office gets a machine that can print 1200 passports per hour.
Speaking on the Wontumi Morning Show, Mr. Thomas Kusi Boafo stated that he had a meeting with stakeholders to know the challenges the passport office faced and followed it up by drafting a concept note to demand $2 million from the World Bank.
“I asked what they needed and they told me software and systems and I signed the contract. We put together a concept note like an easy and took it to the World Bank to get money to buy the machines needed. But before you get that money, you have to justify it”, he said.
Mr. Thomas Kusi Boafo also listed some Western African countries charging more for the acquisition than Ghana.
In his view, it was time for Ghana to charge “realistic” prices for the document and print passports on time.
