The Ashanti regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has revealed that he was part of the team that lobbied for George Akuffo Dampare to get the nod as Inspector-General of Police.
In a studio interview on Mr. Gordon Asare-Bediako Movement TV’s Bekyere Mu Show which was monitored by Movementtvonline.com, Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi stated that he is however not happy with the development of an alleged audio tape involving the IGP.
“Dampare is my brother and I am part of those who lobbied for him. I like his personality but I believe with what is happening in parliament, the committee is damaging him”, Chairman Wontumi stressed.
Commissioner of Police George Alex Mensah has alleged that the brain behind a recording of his controversial plot of oust the IGP in a leaked conversation is the IGP himself, George Akuffo Dampare.
He made the allegation at the tail end of Day 2 of his testimony before the Samuel Atta Akyea-led parliamentary committee sitting at Parliament House in Accra on September 1, 2023.
Chairman Wontumi stressed that the only person who has something to lose in this saga is the IGP and not COP Alex Mensah and used the opportunity to call on the IGP to save himself from any form of disgrace.
