I Hear Different Lies About Me Everyday – Dr Bawumia

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President and a leading contender for the NPP flagbearer slot, has revealed that he is constantly being accused of spreading falsehoods about himself.

With just two weeks to go before the party’s primary, he is currently campaigning and has claimed that his opponents are resorting to fabricating stories about him because they fear they will be defeated in the November 4 polls.

In a speech given to delegates in the Tatale-Sanguli Constituency, Bawumia argued that his opponents are resorting to new tactics, such as spreading lies, in order to create disunity between party members and cause problems between chairmen, constituency executives, polling station executives, and electoral area coordinators.

Unfortunately, he said, the results of the super delegates have left many of his opponents confused and worried about the impending defeat.

The Vice President has come under a barrage of criticism in the lead-up to the presidential primary from his main contender, Kennedy Agyapong with the latest by former Environment Minister, Prof Frimpong-Boateng.

The former Environment Minister in an exclusive interview with TV3 said the governing party will struggle to win the 2024 elections with the Vice President as its candidate.

“Lots of pronouncements that he made in the past, his enemies will only have to play that back and then we’ll see…so it’s going to be more difficult for the party” he told Keminni Amanor.

Having chosen silence all throughout the campaign, the Vice President believes “…they want to knock our heads together so they have come with different lies.”

“I’m hearing a lie every day as I am sitting down and watching what they are saying,” Dr Bawumia said.

The Vice President, who has been accused of buying allegiance again challenged the narrative. “They say I have given all Constituency Chairmen, 275 Constituency Chairmen a GH¢100, 000 and a pick-up. Have you seen any pick-up here for your chairman? This is just a ridiculous lie” he told the supporters who cheered him on.

Dr Bawumia further debunked claims he is advocating for sitting MPs to contest their primaries unopposed. For Dr Bawumia, “Their tactics is that if you miss the ball, don’t miss the man, but as for this they will miss the man because we will not allow their lies to take root.”

The New Patriotic Party will on November 4 go to the poll to elect a flagbearer to take over from President Akufo-Addo. Kennedy Agyapong, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia, Dr Afriyie Akoto, and Addae Nimo are in contention for the ticket as the party aims to break the 8-year electoral cycle in the Fourth Republican Constitution.
