Hot Meal: Nana Ama Ampomah Revokes Contract Of Two Caterers, Cautions Others For Cooking Bad Food

Nana Ama Ampomah, an Ashanti Regional Coordinator for the Ghana School Feeding Program (GSFP) has revoked the appointment and replaced two caterers in the Manhyia Sub-metro for cooking bad food for pupils preparing to undertake their BECE exams.

The coordinator has also cautioned some caterers in the Asokwa Municipal Assembly as well as others who are preparing food for the final year pupils to maintain the standards as set out in their contracts.

Touring some of the schools in her catchment area last Friday, Madam Ampomah expressed satisfaction at the foods that were being given to the pupils at the time of her unannounced visits.

At the Good Shepherd School at Ahensan-estate in the Asokwa Municipal Assembly, three teachers commended the caterer for providing the pupils with good food.

Teachers and Pupils at Serwaah Nyarko MA and St Louis basic schools also commended their caterers for cooking good foods.

STRATEGY:
Speaking to this reporter after the tour, Madam Ampomah said the directorate upon complaints and videos on tv and social media decided to intensify its monitoring of all caterers under the feeding programme.

She noted that out of the 21 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) under her jurisdiction, about five schools had challenges with their food.

Madam Ampomah revealed that special  menu had been designed for the caterers to cook according to same and wondered why some had tried lowering the standards.

The advice, she noted was that caterers should use quality local food stuffs for their menu for the pupils.

“As a directorate we are determined to intensify our monitoring so that caterers in all the 43 MMDAs in Ashanti give the best of foods to BECE pupils so as to encourage them to study and pass their exams”

REPORTS:
Meanwhile, information available to the Ghanaian Observer newspaper is that the Gender Minister, Madam Cynthia Morrison has tasked Nana Ama Ampomah and her other colleague on the program for Ashanti, Mary Duodu to provide him with periodic reports of the operations of the caterers.

A source hinted this reporter that upon receipt of widespread complaints in some of the schools in Ashanti, the Minister summoned both coordinators to a meeting.

The Gender Minister is reported to have tasked the two to provide her with daily reports on the cooking of the caterers.

Pictures and videos of foods that would be served to pupils by the caterers are also to be made available to the Minister’s office, the source hinted.
