‘Help Us, We Are Suffering’- Children With Kidney Disease Appeal To Philanthropists

Children with kidney disease in Kumasi are appealing to philanthropists and the public to support them with funds to their handicap.

They lamented that, the kidney disease has left them in a situation they cannot be enrolled in school.

The embattled children with the kidney disease, during the launch of the Association of Parents of Children with Kidney disease further appealed to the public that, “We cannot urinate and we diffecate on ourselves everyday so pls help us.”

Dr. Oheneba Danso, the Chief Executive Officer of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in a speech read on his behalf by Professor Baffour Opoku said that, if persons are diagnosed with kidney disease, it can pose a huge challenge on them and the society.

“Kidney disease has a great impact on the lives of the patients. It reduces their ability to partake in everyday activities.

Prof. Opoku revealed that, the challenges the hospital face include the late presentation of the children with the end stage kidney disease.

He subjected the cause to poverty, ignorance, superstitious beliefs and empowerment.

According to him, the final solution to the kidney disease is not the dialysis rather the kidney transplant.

Prof. Opoku disclosed that, the vision of the Association is to equip parents of the children with indepth knowledge of holistic management of the disease and working with cooperate organizations and philanthropists to support the patients.

For his part, the President of the Association, Professor Osei Anto revealed he nearly died after his son who was in a stable condition was all of a sudden diagnosed with the kidney disease.

“People should help us. Our children are suffering,” he said.

Prof. Anto advised parents of the children with the kidney disease not to succumb to superstitions relating to the disease.
