Heavy rains damage bridge Edwinase-Kokotro; MP pledges urgent intervention

Residents of Edwinase-Kokotro in the Bekwai Constituency are facing significant challenges following heavy rainfall that occurred over the weekend, causing damage to main bridge connecting communities to the Capital.

The affected section of the bridge has been washed away by the rain, making it difficult for residents to cross safely.

This situation poses a major risk, particularly for elderly residents, farmers and others who may not be physically capable of taking the risk..

According to some residents, who lives closer to the bridge, the damaged bridge serves as the main route connecting the community.

While an alternative route exists through a nearby communities, it requires extra transportation, creating additional inconvenience for commuters and residents

Community members are calling on the relevant authorities to urgently assess the damage and undertake repair works to restore safe access and prevent possible deaths.

The Member of Parliament for Bekwai, Ralph Poku-Adusei, has pledged to push for the immediate reconstruction of the bridge linking Edwinase and Kokotro after it was washed away by heavy rains. The MP who immediately rushed to the scene on Tuesday, June 16,2026, following the devastating news said it’s a shame on the part of leadership and the country.

“This bridge is more than concrete and steel. It is the lifeline connecting mothers to clinics, farmers to their markets, and children to their classrooms,” the MP said.
