Health Care System At Twifo Ati Mokwaa District Improves Under NPP Government, Says DCE
The Twifo Atti Mokwa District (TAMDA) in the Central Region which used to be one of the nation’s most deprived in terms of health care delivery, has for the past three years been witnessing a massive improvement in the sector.
According to the National 2010 population census, the doctor to patient ratio in the district with a population of 61,473 was 1:18,813 while the nurses to patient ratio was much worst. In terms of health facilities it had only one government hospital, one health centre one maternity home.
DCE, Hon Robert Agyemang Nyantakyi, who made the disclosure on Wontumi TV/Radio said with the coming into office of the NPP government under Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the construction of numerous health facilities has changed the situation with majority of the residents willing to give the NPP government another four years to rule the country.
“Now the situation is not as serious as it used to be and the improvement has come about in less than four years which is amazing. “ He said.
On health infrastructure the DCE said that the 60-bed capacity Hospital at Twifo Praso District Hospital which was started in 2008 under the former President, John Agyekum Kufuor has been completed.
“This is a major breakthrough in TAMDA health care delivery system because we haven’t had it so good before.” He said.
To make the hospital more functional, he disclosed that a 2 No 4-unit Doctors bungalows known commonly as Flat 13-B has been constructed .
“ Nurses quarters have also been constructed at Twifo Bimponso, and also at Brimpong Egya and all these developments have indeed become a big welcome news for the people of the district.” He said.
The DCE continued, a number of CHPs compound facilities have also been provided. The beneficiary communities include Oseneagya, and Twifo Maabasa. The facilities have each been provided with accommodation for three hospital staff.
Additionally, the CHPs compound at Ayaase has also been renovated.
He said to ensure proper sanitation in the District, 850 Digni loos have been provided to 56 communities.
On roads, Hon Agyemang Nyantakyi noted that the 50 kilometer stretch leading to Dunkwa is being constructed. Additionally, the near abandoned ancient Twifo Praso Steel bridge constructed more than 100 years ago is undergoing repairs .The famous bridge used to be an integral link in the railway network which passed through the District.
“The maintenance works are far advanced as well as the Twifo Praso main concrete bridge over the Pra River that connects Dunkwa-On-Offin which is being renovated.”
The Twifo Praso township is also benefitting from a 1.6 kilometer asphalting project under the government’s year of road’s agenda.
“ Fifty thousand palm seedlings have been supplied to 258 farmers with 214 farmers also benefiting from the supply of 100 bags of certified rice seeds .” The DCE said
According to Hon Agyemang-Nyantakyi 150 bags of fertilizers have been provided to farmers.
“We have also constructed a new market at Twifo Praso which is part of a number of infrastructural projects provided especially in the educational sector. One of them is the 1 No 3 Unit classroom block with ancillary facilities at Akwakrom and Nuamakrom.
TAMDA Dynamics
The Twifo Atti-Morkwa District (TAMDA) formerly known as the Twifo/Hemang/Lower Denkyira District was created in 2012. It shares commonboundaries with Upper Denkyira East, Muncipal, Twifo Heman Lower Denkyira, Mpohor Wassa Eas District and the Assin North Municpal and Assin South district.
Its population of 61,743 represents 2.9 percent of the population of the Central Region.
Fifty one percent of its population comprises females with males constituting the remaining 49%.
