Harry Kane Reacts To Becoming Tottenham’s All-time Leading Goalscorer

From Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – Harry Kane admitted he was ‘overwhelmed’ by the feeling of becoming Tottenham’s outright all-time leading goalscorer.

Kane’s first-half strike saw Spurs beat Manchester City 1-0 on Sunday, taking him to 267 goals for the club – one more than the great Jimmy Greaves.

After securing a huge victory in their season, Kane conducted an interview on the pitch after the final whistle with over 60,000 home fans remaining in their seats to watch and listen

“It’s quite surreal. Just a magical feeling, to be able to do it here in front of the home fans, to win the game, it’s everything I’ve dreamed about and spoken about over the last few weeks. I wanted to do it in a special place and I was meant to do it in front of these amazing fans,” Kane said while being serenaded with his ‘one of our own’ chant.

“I’ve been here since I was 11 years old, a lot of hard work, sacrifice, dedication. I remember my first Premier League start, back end of the old White Hart Lane, scoring against Sunderland. It wasn’t even in my thought to reach this target of goals or reach 200 Premier League goals.

“Just a surreal moment and it’s hard to take it all in now. I’m sure when I’m older and looking back at my career it’ll be something I’m extremely proud of. My friends and family are here, it’s a great win.

“I think it was hard not to think about [breaking the record when so close to it], I was just trying to focus on each game as it came. ‘It’ll be a special feeling no matter where I do it’. To do it in a big game against a really good side, an important moment in our season. I’m going to take it all in and look forward to the next one.

Asked whether this special goal felt different, Kane replied: “Yeah of course, It’s in the back of my mind. I’m desperate to score in every game but to score in this game…I’m just overwhelmed with feelings and adrenaline. I was so desperate to see this out and win and get three points so we could have this moment together. I couldn’t have asked for more.

“Jimmy was one of the best strikers to ever play the game, so to even be mentioned in his company is a really amazing feeling. I’m sure his family are watching back home and they’ll be proud, he was one of the greats of the game. To go above him is a dream come true.”

In one last direct message to supporters, Kane said: “I just wanted to say thank you to all the fans here and fans back home who have supported me through my whole career. Thank you to my wife Kate, my kids, my family, my friends, my teammates here, the coaches, everyone who’s helped me get to this moment in my career. I’m really grateful. We’ve still got a lot to play for this year, let’s keep the support going. Let’s see where it takes us.”
