GPRTU, Transport Ministry To Conclude Deliberations On Transport Fares Next Week Tuesday
The General Secretary for the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) , Mr. Godfred Abulbire has disclosed that, the Transport Union and the Ministry of Transport will meet next week Tuesday, (25/05/21) to finalize the deliberations on increment in fares.
He stressed that, the GPRTU has not increased transport fares and for that matter commuters should disregard the rumors on increment in fares.
In an interview with Oheneba Nana Asiedu on Wontumi Radio and TV Morning Show, Mr. Abulbire emphasized that, his outfit is clueless about the 20 percent increment in transport fares.
The GPRTU General Secretary explained that, the sector Minister heeds to their plights.
Earlier this week, GPRTU urged passengers to ignore the 20 percent increment in transport fares.
The union described the said increment as unfair to passengers.
The Secretary of GPRTU, Mr. Abulbire said, “When we are even given the freehand by the government to adjust the fares the way we want, you think the GPRTU will increase it beyond 20 percent? If you go by more than 30 percent, you are virtually killing your business because the effect actually goes to the customers who put us in business. So we are mindful of that.”
“Those who have planned to increase the fares are on the minute side, but GPRTU and GRCC cut across the whole country and the mother body that hosts all other transport unions. So we ask our customers and the general public to ignore the publication because it does not reflect the true decision of what GPRTU is negotiating with the government”, he admonished.
