Gov’t To Construct Railway Line From Accra-Kumasi- Akufo-Addo Discloses

The President of the Republic, Nana Akufo-Addo has said that the construction of a new standard railway line from Accra – Tema – Kumasi will soon take effect.

According to him, he expects the construction to be assigned before the December elections.

The President was speaking at Kaase a suburb of Kumasi during a sod cutting ceremony for the commencement of the construction of the first phase of the Kumasi-Obuasi section of the new standard gauge railway line on his final day of tour to the Ashanti Region and covered by Wontumionline.com.

He many may know that the country’s railway network has never gone beyond Kumasi that’s why he is happy to announce the feasibility study of the commemorative design of a new standard guage line of Aduaben through to Tamale.

His Excellency disclosed that final stakeholders consultation will commence towards the process of land acquisition to begin.

President Nana Addo appealed to Nananom to offer their full support to the project.

According to Nana Akufo-Addo, in the first term of his administration more construction activity in the railway sector has gone on.

“Over the last two years government has made a solid foundation for railway development and it will receive a great impact when Nana and NPP government are given four more years to do more for Ghanaians”

Adding his voice, Joe Ghartey, Minister for Railways Development said that, Akufo-Addo’s regime will be more than that of Sir Golden Guggisberg.

According to him, Guggisberg became the successful government of railway development.

He noted that, the whites left the country with 947 kilometers of railway line.

He bemoaned that, the last time a railway line was constructed in Kumasi was in 1923 and in the era of President Akufo-Addo which is being witnessed.

Mr. Ghartey punched the NDC that, saying for eight years in office they only constructed 15.6 kilometers of railway line but Nana Akufo-Addo in three and a half years has constructed 102 kilometers of railway lines and the cost is 600 million dollars.

He disclosed that, there would be a construction of railway line from Adum to Kaase which would be a double line and the cost is 48 million dollars adding that it will be 6 kilometers railway line.

He said that, the Adum to Kaase railway line would be the first standard double railway line to be constructed in the country.

“Since Akufo-Addo assumed office, all the railway lines we have constructed are standard guage. President has invested about 2 billion dollars in the railway sector,” he noted.
