Government Supports Farmers In Bosomtwe Constituency

Government through the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Bosomtwe Constituency, Hon. Lawyer Joseph Kwasi Asuming, has distributed 21,000 palm seedlings under the PERD programme to 250 farmers in the area.

Hon. Asuming said that, the distribution of the seedlings are done annually and are given to farmers to plant them.

In an exclusive interview with Nana Owusu Achiaw, the DCE for the area revealed that the farmers are given the seedlings with no charge because the government has absorbed the cost.

He advised the farmers to prune the seedlings when planted hence it’s not friendly to weed.

Hon. Lawyer Asuming pleaded with the beneficiaries not to sell the seedlings.

For his part, the Agriculture Director for the locality, Mr. Eric Fofie said that if you want to plant nut then getting a good seeding is very important.

He said that they acquired the seedlings at Kade and shared it to the farmers.

“We begun nursing the seedlings last year and they are protected with weedicides and fertilizers,” he revealed.

Mr. Fofie revealed that the Assembly has introduced agriculture extension education on the planting of seedlings to the farmers.

He explained that, agriculture extension officers will help the famers do the lining and pegging and will visit them monthly to correct any blunders in the seeds planting.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed their profound gratitude to the government and the DCE for the support.

“We thank the government for this support. We will do whatever we are supposed to do to get the benefit of the seedlings,” they said.

According to them, the climate change has affected them but hoping it will soon start to rain for their crops to start growing.
