Good Nutrition Helps  Protect Techiman North Residents From Getting  COVID-19,  DCE Discloses

 

Chief Executive of Techiman North District, Hon. Peter Mensah, says the rich nutrients in locally produced foods  which have improved the nutritional needs of the people in the area have become a major factor that has boosted their immunity to be able to withstand the effect of the coronavirus.

He mentioned food types  such as cereals, fruits, root and tubers as  well as vegetables which are grown extensively by farmers in the district  who constitute the majority of its population who are predominantly farmers.

“Locally, our people consume a lot of the foods they  produce themselves foods and this makes us unique  because we are self sufficient in crop production and  animal raising.”He observed.

Hon. Mensah who was speaking on Wontumi Radio and TV on the Election 2020 political programme disclosed that, the dominant farming population are hardworking and have played a key role in sustaining the local economy  and thus, become  key stakeholders in meeting  national developmental goals .

“One cannot count about three towns that perform massively in food production and exclude Techiman. We are part of the national bread basket.”He boasted.

According to him, the area is also considered as  one of the most peaceful Districts in the country.

Hon. Peter Mensah told the host of the programme, Oheneba Nana Asiedu that, Techiman North has produced a number of high profile Ministers Of State who have served in  both  previous or current political administrations   as well as university lecturers.

“Every political party that comes to power chooses at least one prominent  politician from our area to assist him to rule.” He indicated

He said that the District has about 143 basic schools, six Senior High Schools including one private SHS and a Nursing Training College.

The capital town of the District which shares   common  boundaries with Wenchi, Kintampo South and Kintampo North is Tuobodom.
