In times of crisis, Ken Ofori-Atta stepped out to salvage the situation and this is the time for the nation to show him love, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, has advised.
The NPP Chairman in an interview with Wontumionline.com, stated that the nation shouldn’t turn a blind eye on the good things Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta has done for us by calling for his removal from office.
Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako popularly referred to as Chairman Wontumi, stated that before the NPP won power, the erstwhile Mahama government had settled the economy of Ghana in an abyss but it took the hard work of Mr. Ofori-Atta to return the country to the right path.
“As that the time NPP won power, Ghana was already an economic mess created by John Mahama. His government had messed up the economy to an extent that he said the economy had turned to bones. And we were on an IMF program but Ken came to wean us off the situation”, Chairman Wontumi said as he made a case for the Finance minister to be maintained in office.
“I believe he is the man to do it”, Chairman Wontumi added as he explained that when the nation needed funds to start and maintain the free SHS program, Ken Ofori-Atta became the architect behind it.
“When it came to how to fund and sustain the free SHS, he was the person who engineered it. When he was doing it, John Mahama and his running mate, Naana Opoku Agyemang said it would take Ghana 20 years to get there”, Chairman Wontumi said.
According to him, when the nation felt the impact of COVID 19, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta ensured that all government workers received their salaries and has also given clearance for more people to be employed into the security and health service.
He pleaded with those calling for the head of Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta to reconsider him and allow him to perform his duties.
“Ofori-Atta is not the cause of Russia-Ukraine war; I believe he can do it again. He has done a very hard job for the country in difficult times and it is time for Ghana to show love to him”, Chairman Wontumi said.
