Ghanaian ‘Investors’ Unhappy With Afena-Gyan After Late Goal Against Napoli

Felix Afena-Gyan has become unpopular among Ghanaian ‘investors’ following his late goal against Napoli.

The young Ghana international came off the bench to score in the 87th minute of Cremonese’s Coppa Italia match against Napoli.

Afena-Gyan went on to score the winning penalty as Cremonese secured a famous win to progress to the quarter-finals.

The youngster is having a difficult season. He failed to hit the ground running after joining Cremonese from AS Roma, which resulted in his exclusion from the Black Stars squad for the World Cup despite playing a key role in qualification.

Prior to Tuesday, he had only scored one goal this season. He got his second with a well-placed header that saved Cremonese late in the game. Cremonese had a man sent off in extra time but defended resolutely to force penalty shootouts, which Afena-Gyan calmly converted the club’s final spot kick to secure victory.

Afena-Gyan took to Twitter to celebrate Cremonese’s victory at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, but instead of praise, some Ghanaians attacked him.

The Ghanaians, who are bettors and have been dubbed ‘investors’, had bet on Napoli to beat Cremonese, and would have won without Afena-Gyan’s late goal.
