The flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has stated that Ghana needs a leader with a “possibility mindset” to drive the country’s development agenda.
He believes the country does not need a “24-hour disco leader” who prioritises short-term political gains and populist decisions over long-term vision and strategic planning.
Addressing a mini rally of NPP supporters at Ablekuma Curve in the Sowutuom Constituency of the Greater Accra Region, Dr. Bawumia emphasised the need for a leader who can inspire hope and confidence in the people, and not one who is only interested in having a good time.
He expressed skepticism regarding the 24-hour economy concept being championed by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), dismissing it as a mere slogan rather than a comprehensive policy designed to drive meaningful change and development.
He pointed out that the lack of clarity surrounding this concept is evident in the fact that its explanation has become a subject of discord among NDC members, including the party’s flagbearer, ex-President John Dramani Mahama, with each individual offering their own interpretation.
Dr. Bawumia expressed utter bewilderment at former President Mahama’s decision to include discotheque visits as part of his 24-hour economy promise, finding it a puzzling aspect of the NDC’s policy proposal.
According to him, Ghana is at a stage where it needs fresh minds to govern it, assuring voters that he will be a better President for all.
At Pentecost University where he addressed a gathering of chiefs, imams, pastors and opinion leaders, the NPP flagbearer said he would take Ghana to the next level when he becomes President.
Dr. Bawumia pledged to scale up the global-leading drone delivery system and advance digitalisation policies, driving Ghana’s continued leadership in tech innovation and digital progress.
At Weija Junction, Dr. Bawumia interacted with pastors, chiefs, imams and opinion leaders, including the wife of the late Deputy Minister of Finance, Lilian Kumah.
He touted his achievements as Vice President, which includes digitalisation drive which has given birth to the Ghana Card.
The Ghana Card, he added, is also accepted globally as it’s now possible for Ghanaians abroad to travel to Ghana with the card.
He added that there would not be the need for passport application forms any longer as the Ghana Card already contains data which is required on the forms.
