As part of measures to project Ghana’s movie industry to the international community, Ghana’s high commission to Spain has organised the Ghana film festival in Spain.
The annual movie festival, which seeks to celebrate and promote Ghanaian movies outside the country, took place at the 65th independence celebration in Spain at the Centro Cultural Casa de Vacas, Madrid.
In attendance were Ghana’s ambassador to Spain and his deputy Dr William Manful, actress Ama K Abebrese, Salma Mumin, a session of the Ghanaian Community in Spain, a team from Ghana’s creative arts Agency and some prominent media practitioners from Ghana such as Christian Agyei Frimpong of Media General, Dav Hamner of Hello FM in Kumasi and others.
In all, three Ghanaian films were selected and shown. The burial of Kojo, Keteke and A sting in a tale. These indigenous films were telecasted to the multinational patron who attended the festival. Who in turn commended the Ghana high commission for a good job done.
Ghana’s ambassador to Spain, Mr William Manful, had a few words to share. He stated, “This is the embassy’s way of projecting Ghanaian movies to the world. We will never give up on this beautiful initiative, and very soon, we will extend this to the music industry.”
In an interview with Frank Kwabena Owusu, creative arts agency representative on Onua FM’s Anigye Mmere, he praised the Ghana mission in Spain for such brilliant work done and described the occasion as humbling.
“Even though the original languages are English and Twi, the subtitling made them enjoy the films. You could see the audience laughing, smiling and even kept sitting when it all ended.”
He again said, “This initiative has presented the creatives in both movie and music sector the opportunities to collaborate with other production houses in Spain.
“It is a good example for other Ghanaian missions to emulate and sell Ghana. I believe it’s major machinery that can project the creatives in getting a good partnership. If other missions abroad come together with our creative arts industry, we can achieve more as a country by creating such projects and programs to showcase Ghanaian content to the international community. This is one sure way of promoting our culture.” Frank Kwabena Owusu advised.
