Ghana Earned $9.5m Despite Early World Cup Exit – GFA

Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum says Ghana earned more than the $9m which was proposed for all participants who exited the group stage of the 2022 World Cup.

The four-time African champions failed to qualify for the next round of the competition after losing to Uruguay in their final group game. The Black Stars had the chance to earn more had they avoided defeat against the South Americans following their 3-2 win over South Korea in the previous match. They had also lost to Portugal by a similar margin in the opening match.

While it was projected before the tournament that Ghana and other countries would earn $9 million for participating in the group stage, Henry Asante Twum claims what they earned was half a million more.

“Ghana earned $9.5 million at the group stage of the World Cup,” he told Asempa FM.

He added that much of the money will be channelled into the uplifting of the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

“The plan now is to turn Ghanaman Centre of Excellence into at least a 3-star hotel with a 60 to 70 capacity. We want to raise the standard of the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence so that it can host matches of all our national teams.”
