Ghana marked its 67th anniversary on March 6, 1957, of becoming independent from British colonial rule.
Ghana became the first nation in Sub-Saharan Africa to be freed from British colonial rule after 83 years of colonization.
Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the nation’s first president, declared Ghana’s independence from colonial rule to be a critical turning point in the history of the country’s leadership.
Annual celebrations begin on March 6 and include a variety of events that span the entire month, both within Ghana and among its expatriate population.
The theme of this year’s event was “Our Democracy, Our Pride.”
The anniversary was colourfully celebrated in the Bosomtwe Constituency of the Ashanti Region. It was attended by about thirty schools.
After the ceremony, the District Chief Executive Officer for Bosomtwe, Lawyer Joseph Kwasi Asuming, spoke to the press and said that the day was noteworthy and significant to Ghanaians.
Lawyer Joseph Kwasi Asuming urged all citizens, regardless of background, to work hard and be obedient to accelerate the nation’s development.
Speaking about the prizes given to the Bosomtwe students who performed exceptionally well on their final exams, he praised them for their intelligence and urged them to remain vigilant to further the growth of the constituency and Ghana.
The Bosomtwe DCE, however, urged the people of Bosomtwe to consider the progress made in the area by the MP, Hon. Yaw Osei Adutwum and cast a resounding vote in favour of the NPP so that they can carry on with their “good” work.
