GFA Can’t Manipulate Hughton –  Oduro Nyarko

Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member Samuel Oduro Nyarko believes the nature of Black Stars coach Chris Hughton makes him difficult to manipulate by the current administration.

Over the years, the GFA has been accused of manipulating national team coaches, particularly regarding player selection.

In response to how Hughton would handle those rumours if they were true, Oduro Nyarko believes the former Newcastle manager is above manipulation given his experience in the job.

“Hughton is the man who cannot be manipulated; he is good. I think that he is the one who will stick to his guns and not allow himself to be manipulated. That makes him a good coach, coupled with his experience in the English premier league.

“It  (the Black Stars) is a young team and the possibility to lead this team to success is glaring.” Oduro Nyarko told Citi FM.

Hughton succeeded Otto Addo, who stepped down in December 2022 after the Black Stars were eliminated from the World Cup in the first round after a 2-0 defeat to Uruguay.

Before assuming the full role as a head coach, he worked with the team as the technical advisor in a four-member technical team that qualified over Nigeria for the World Cup and subsequently represented the nation in Qatar.

In his first two games, the 64-year-old earned four points from the team’s doubleheader against Angola in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
