The Ashanti regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako has described Prof Steve Hanke as a “frustrated” and “corrupt” economist hired by former President John Mahama to talk about Ghana’s economy.
The NPP Chairman popularly known as Chairman Wontumi stated that recent comments by Prof Steve Hanke, a co-director of the Institute for Applied Economics at Johns Hopkins University shows that he doesn’t understand what is happening in today’s world economy.
“Every country in the world is suffering; even the Central Bank of America is suffering. The Central Bank in UK is also suffering and it is the same in Turkey and China”, Chairman Wontumi said.
He continued that before Prof. Hanke speaks he should have factored all those happenings before zeroing in on Ghana. “Ghana is building after coming from the Covid stage and now, we are feeling the effect of Russia’s war in Ukraine”, he said.
Chairman Wontumi accused Prof Hanke of being contracted by former President Mahama to talk down on the economy of Ghana.
He was quick to add that the economy of Ghana was destroyed by Mr. Mahama.
“You have forgotten Mahama is the person who destroyed Ghana’s economy, you are a corrupt economist”, Chairman Wontumi said of Prof Hanke.
The Ashanti regional Chairman served notice to Prof Hanke that if he thinks his one-sided economic lecturers about Ghana could win Mr. Mahama the 2024 elections, then he has lost his way.
