Six years ago, Rahim Ibrahim was a young midfielder at Accra Lions, beginning a journey that would eventually take him to one of the biggest stages in club football.
On Wednesday, September 9, 2026, night, the Ghanaian found himself at the Parc des Princes, lining up for Slovan Bratislava against the reigning European champions Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League.
It was a remarkable jump from where his professional journey began.
Ibrahim left Accra Lions for Slovakian side AS Trenčín in December 2020, beginning his European adventure. After developing his game in Slovakia, he joined Slovan Bratislava in February 2025 and has since become part of the club’s European campaigns.
His first taste of Champions League football came last season, when Slovan entered the competition through the qualifying rounds.
The journey, however, ended in painful fashion against Kairat Almaty. Ibrahim started the first leg in Kazakhstan but was sent off after receiving a second yellow card in the 65th minute. Slovan eventually lost 1-0 to a stoppage-time penalty and failed to progress.
This time, Ibrahim went a step further.
Slovan navigated the 2026/27 qualifying rounds to reach the Champions League league phase, earning the Ghanaian his first appearance in the competition’s main stage.
And the draw could hardly have provided a bigger occasion.
His Champions League debut came against PSG, the defending champions, with Ibrahim sharing the pitch with some of the world’s biggest stars, including Ousmane Dembélé, the reigning Ballon d’Or winner.
The night itself proved difficult, with PSG running out 6-1 winners, but the result could not erase the significance of Ibrahim’s journey.
