Free SHS Faces Imminent Collapse If NDC Backs To Power- NAPO Warns

The Education Minister, Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has warned of imminent collapse of the free Senior High School education if the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is not given another term of office to continue.

He said the free secondary education which has benefited 1.2 million Ghanaians stands the risk of been cancelled by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), which has opposed the policy before and during its inception.

NAPO, as affectionately called, gave the warning during the inauguration ceremony of the GETFund Mid-Ghana Office at Asokwa in the Asokwa municipality of the Ashanti region.

The Mid Ghana office, which is the first of its kind in Ghana, will serve and cater for the infrastructural needs of schools in the middle belt of the country.

The ceremony was graced by the Board of Trustees of the GETFund, Asokwa MCE, KMA Mayor, Asokwa MP, Chief of Asokwa and staff of the GETFund.

The Manhyia South MP argued that the NDC who spelt doom for the free SHS policy, has turned around saying they will reveal the policy when voted into power, a stand the minister said “a ploy to deceive Ghanaians for their votes”.

“Nana Akufo Addo has done free education for three years and those who said they will cancel the free SHS education now say they are going to review it. In my mind, I take the review by the NDC that when they come into office, they will cancel it,”

“If Ghanaians will put that on the scale; those who will cancel the free SHS, which has benefited 1.2 million Ghanaians and those who will cancel it so that me and you will suffer poverty and ignorance. Ghanaians should decide which party to vote for in the December 2020 elections. I believe they will vote for the NPP for the continuing of the free SHS” NAPO added.

Education infrastructure

Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh acknowledged that the rise in the numbers have met that they should build more infrastructures so that the numbers can be adequately cared for, which he said, are been done by the Nana Akufo Addo led government

“On infrastructure, the largest infrastructural developments in Ghana history, as far as secondary school education is concerned, have been done under the Nana Akufo Addo government. Classrooms, dormitories and all other facilities to make secondary school education possible, are being done, courtesy, GETFund,” he boasted.
