Frank Lampard Reveals Why He Took Chelsea Caretaker Manager Job

Frank Lampard has insisted it was an ‘easy decision’ to return to Chelsea as the club’s caretaker manager.

The legendary midfielder re-joined Chelsea on Thursday afternoon, taking on an interim role while the club continue their search for a new permanent manager. He was previously in charge at Stamford Bridge from 2019 to 2021 before taking over at Everton.

Speaking at his unveiling press conference, Lampard insisted taking the job was a no-brainer.

He said: “Easy decision for me, this is my club. I’m also a very practical person. I’ve been on a different path since I left Chelsea but to come back when I’ve been asked and come back with a belief I can help until the end of the season.

“I’m delighted to get the opportunity and I’m thankful. I’ve a good understanding of the squad, the training ground, the stadium and the fans and I’ll do my best.”

Lampard was also asked about his aspirations of doing so well that the club opt to offer him the permanent position, though the Premier League Hall of Famer insisted he has parked those thoughts for now.

He added: “Roberto [Di Matteo] did an incredible job to stay on but that’s a different time in the club’s history.

“I expect those questions but what is important to me is to park it to one side and get on the job. I was at the game on Tuesday, there’s a lot of a talent in the squad and I’m excited to work with them.”
