The Ashanti Regional Organiser for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Francis Adomako has asked the former President, John Mahama to apologise to the Ghanaian people for sounding insincere in his recent interview.
Mr Adomako said it was dishonest for the former President to claim that he was not been catered for as the constitution enjoins the state.
He wondered why the former President should tell Ghanaians that he is not enjoying the entitlements his office demands.
Mr Mahama in an interview with tv3 said he pays his electricity, water and travelling expenses with his own money.
REBUTTAL:
But as a rebuttal, the Presidency released an avalanche of documents and payment vouchers detailing some monetary payments it had advanced to the office of the former President.
The documents showed that apart from the former first couple, about 4 aides of theirs were being catered for with state funds as the emoluments bill enjoins the state .
We publish the sentiments of the Ashanti Regional Organiser in full in a statement released this morning.
STATEMENT BY FRANCIS ADOMAKO:
Being a statesman, one would have expected nothing but, sincerity. In the case of John Mahama, the direct opposite is being exhibited by him towards Ghanaians.
His recent media engagements, is full of misleading statements, which is highly unfortunate. And these misleading statements are coming from no mere a person than a former President who is supposed to know better. How pathetic could that be?
It is trite knowledge that in between the years he served as President of the Republic, a total number of 2846 illegal Chinese miners were either deported or repatriated. This figure is from the Ghana Immigration Service Annual Report.
In sharp contrast to the said figure, former President John Mahama on his recent tour and engagement with a section of the Ghanaian populace, sought to once again, exhibit his hypocritical attitude. According to him, as part of measures to curb the galamsey menace under his watch, a total number of 5000 illegal miners were either repatriated or deported.
Many a Ghanaian, are at lost as to how he arrived by this figure. It is public knowledge, galamsey activities heightened under his watch, and no significant efforts were made by him to help curb this menace. Ironically, this same person is now acting as holier than thou, in this fight which has led him to resort to lies in order to appeal to the emotions of Ghanaians.
I want to reiterate that the Presidential seat of Ghana, is a sacred one which deserves people of integrity, to occupy so as to serve the nation well. Former President John Mahama, per his recent utterances, has clearly demonstrated that he is not fit to occupy the said seat again.
He must as well, come out to render unqualified apology to Ghanaians for the misleading statements.
