After being grilled by the vetting committee on his plans for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) should he become its next National Chairman, John Boadu detailed three key areas from his vetting, including plans to fast-track the party’s disciplinary process and ensure coherence within the party’s Council of Elders.
Speaking to the media after his vetting, the National Chairman aspirant said the process of holding offenders of party rules to account needs to move faster, to prevent impunity or a situation where anyone takes the party for granted.
“I touched on especially the disciplinary process. I think it’s too long, and that is creating a lot of impunity for people who are supposed to be sanctioned,” he said.
To close ranks and prevent disunity, Mr. Boadu said the roles of the various Councils of Elders at the National, Regional, and Constituency levels should be reconciled so they can work together as a unit.
He added: “Another area is to strengthen the functions of our National Council of Elders and get them to link up with the Regional Council of Elders and the Constituency Council of Elders, in order to detect signs of dispute before they escalate to a level that will not be okay for us as a party.”
Mr. Boadu also assessed the party’s current numbers in Parliament and promised to work on a plan to ensure that the party’s parliamentary primaries produce competent, election worthy candidates who can help the party reclaim and win more seats.
“We need to win a majority in Parliament, and that becomes a boost for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to become President in 2028,” he said.
