Enabling Environment Needed For Businesses To Thrive Under AfCFTA – Osafo-Maafo

The Senior Advisor to the President, Yaw Osafo-Maafo is urging the government to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive under the African Continental Free trade Area (AfCFTA).

“Competitive production is key, and I believe that, the government also owes it a duty to provide an environment that will make you competitive. And this environment includes taxation, power, utility, which must be provided uninterrupted. If you’re producing an item, and you have power fluctuations and power cut every three hours, how do you become competitive?” he said.

The former Senior Minister was speaking at the 4th edition of the Ghana Industrial Summit and Exhibition.

The Summit and Exhibition which commenced on Tuesday, 17th August will run till August 19, 2021, at the Accra International Conference Centre under the theme “Repositioning Ghanaian Industries to leverage the AfCFTA”.

The summit is the brainchild of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) and is partnered by the Volta River Authority.

In line with this year’s theme, the summit seeks to bring the entire business community to contribute to the discussions leveraging the benefits of the African Continental Free trade Area.

President of AGI, Yaw Adu-Gyamfi added that businesses that partake in the summit will be well-equipped to stand out on the international market.

“It is very apparent that a lot more needs to be done to enable businesses to trade under the AfCFTA considering the turbulence that businesses went through last year. This theme serves the tone for a good dialogue and a policy prescription that should propel our way forward. And I trust that all of us will participate that we get the good mark from all the experts that have been drawn into this summit from our key institutions to help us elucidate the topics that have been outlined for the three and four days”.
