ELECTION 2024: EIU Report Is Premature And Inconsequential- Political Science Lecturer Fumes

A Political Science Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Mohammed Abass has described the report made by the Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) as premature and inconsequential. The report says it expects the NDC to win the 2024 elections.

According to him, it is not in the constitution that every political party is supposed to manage Ghana for eight years.

Mohammed Abass told Oheneba Nana Asiedu on Wontumi Radio and TV Morning Show that, “The EIU’s interest is purely selfish. And their report for projecting victory for NDC because Ghanaians give every political party eight years to rule is unfounded.” Mr. Abass stressed.

He said that the government is not yet done with its appointees and that it is premature to talk about the 2024 elections.

The Political Science Lecturer urged that, “Let’s discuss the substantive issues that will help the country rather than the 2024 elections.”

Background

The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has predicted victory for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 presidential elections.

“The next parliamentary and presidential elections are due in 2024. Under the constitutionally mandated term limits, Mr Akufo-Addo cannot run for a third term. Mr Mahama is reportedly considering whether to run again, but we expect the NDC to seek to revitalise its prospects with a fresh candidate. After two terms of NPP government, we expect the NDC to win the 2024 presidential election and to gain a small majority in parliament,” the EIU said in a recent report.
