Election 2020 : NPP’s One Touch Victory Attainable But Extra Hard Work Needed – Obuasi East MP
The Member of Parliament for Obuasi East, Edward Enning, has hammered on a major achievement of the NPP government which appears to have gone un-noticed and thus, not given the needed prominence.
According to Hon Enning, the rejuvenation of the country’s oldest mine at Obuasi by the NPP government is a major landmark achievement for which the NPP should pat itself on the back.
Speaking on Wontumi TV/Radio in Kumasi on Monday, the Obuasi East MP said under the watch of the NDC the AngloGold operations were brought to a halt” because of the activities of illegal miners.”
“The illegal miners were mining directly and with impunity on AngloGold’s acquired concession which calumniated in the termination of the lawful activities by the legal owners.
“But these reckless act was allowed to persist embarrassingly unhindered until the management of AngloGold became fed up, grounded their equipment and left base.” He said.
Hon Enning continued that illegal mining on AngloGold’s acquired land was a direct affront but luckily when Nana Add took over the reins of government he teamed up with the Asantehene and soon the mine was active
The Obuasi East MP reminded his colleague MPs that the message on the numerous achievements of the NPP has to resonate in every part of the country and it is their duty to be the vehicle that should transport the good message.
“Today I can say that after the Obuasi Mines bounced back about 500 people have been employed and this is a good news because the hustle and bustle peculiar to the central business district of Obuasi is back with all major stakeholders cashing in.
Hon Enning called on party members particularly l those who have been tasked to be in the frontlines as campaigners for the NPP not to give anything to chance.
“There is still more work to be done because our message has to go down to the grass roots for the people in the rural communities to appreciate what the NPP has done to transform the country’s economy.
According to him there are certain areas in the constituencies where there are minor conflicts or rifts among party members adding that, “all these differences have to be addressed before the December election because we shouldn’t forget that complacency caused us to lose the 2008 election to the NDC despite the monumental achievements of former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
“This called for a special team of campaigners to monitor and find solution to all the factors that go against the party’s interests before the elections.
This is the time to ensure that at the constituency level, all cases of outstanding grievances are dealt with so that our great expectation of getting a one touch victory to continue to maintain power, at least, for the next four years, becomes a reality
Hon Enning called on the arbitration committees in the various constituencies to link the national officers to nip in the mud any distraction that could derail our hope of having a straight forward victory.
