District Chief Executive of Sefwi-Akontombra, Hon. Yawson Amoah, has disclosed that educational activities in his area has become more stable since Nana Addo became President of the Republic.
He said that, for some time past the motivation of the children to attend school was very low. But the situation has now improved because of new initiatives introduced by the government especially in the school feeding program. Currently 32 schools are benefitting from the school feeding programme.
Speaking on Wontumi Radio and TV flagship programme dubbed Election 2020, Hon. Amoah stated that, a section of the students were not even having uniforms and shoes to wear to school but through the help of the Member of Parliament for the area, who is also the Deputy Western North Regional Minister, Hon. Alex Tetteh Djornobuah, over 12,000 uniforms and 12,000 shoes have been procured and distributed to motivate the pupils.
“Through the instrumentality of the Membetr of Parliament, an award ceremony was organized for teachers during 16 of them were honoured with the presentation of juicy awards. This has greatly motivated them.” He said.
Hon. Amoah bemoaned that, in previous years the circuit supervisors were finding it difficult to embark on their outreach programmes to monitor teaching activities in the outstations especially, in very remote areas.
However, the challenged was dealt with when a decision was taken by both the the DCE and the MP to use part of the GETfund to purchase motorbikes for the circuit supervisors to use to embark on their monitoring activities..
“We have about 82 basic schools in the area and two Senior High Schools. Our. MP every year provides Maths sets for the final year students apart from absorbing their mock fees.”
