The Ministry of Education has reiterated its claims that the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) is based on merit, downplaying claims of protocol.
In a statement issued by the Ministry on Tuesday, September 15, the Ministry said the placement is free and no parent or guardian should pay money for a placement.
“The Ministry wishes to emphasise that the CSSPS is fundamentally a merit-based system, with merit taking precedence over protocol in the placement of qualified candidates.
The Ministry further reiterates that CSSPS placement is free. No parent or candidate is required to pay money to secure a placement or to have a placement changed.”
It encouraged Parents who have been asked to pay fees for any placement related issue and has credible evidence that any official of the CSSPS Secretariat or any other third party was behind the request to report to the appropriate authorities for investigation adding their identities will be protected.
For the system to function effectively, it said a comprehensive review will take place emphasizing the review will “examine the various components of the system, identify areas requiring improvement, strengthen transparency and accountability.”
It added a working committee will be set up to undertake the review, where recommendations will be made to ensure the continuous efficiency and responsiveness of the CSSPS to the needs of parents, students and other stakeholders.
