E/R: 177 Persons File To Contest MMDCEs Position In 33 Districts
About 177 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executive (MMDCEs) have gone through a successful vetting processes in the Eastern Region.
This was disclosed by the Eastern Regional Minister who doubles as, the Chairman of the vetting Committee at the final day of the vetting process.
The vetting process which took place at the residency of the Regional Minister, lasted for 5 days and was organized in a peaceful atmosphere.
All the aspirants exhibited sense of maturity and there was no confrontation from the beginning to the end.
Addressing the press, Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong, disclosed that the exercise from day one till the last day was very peaceful and successful and he commended all aspirants for putting up good behavior.
He pointed out that, now the exercise has been completed successfully, it is their responsibility to send the final report to the Local Government Minister.
The Minister averred that, the Committee after evaluating the entire process, has no power to disqualify any aspirant and that, all petition received would be forwarded to the President even though, they have managed to settle some disputes.
According to Hon. Acheampong, where the incumbent MMDCEs are contesting again, 3 candidates are selected among the lots and sent to the President who have the final power to select the best candidate to represent him.
He added that, in an area where no incumbent is contested, 4 people are selected out of the lots and submitted to the President.
Among those who conducted the interview comprises; Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong as Chairman representing the President, Mr. Samuel Awuku, representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Headquarters, Mr. Prince Aboagye, from office of the President, Mr.Twum Beremah, representing the Eastern Region NPP leadership, and several Constituency representation.
