Mr. George Akom, NPP Parliamentary candidate for Sekyere Afram Plains Constituency in the Ashanti has acknowledged the contribution of the vice president’s vision of introducing drone medical delivery service in the improvement of healthcare in the country that serves beyond it purpose in his constituency.

In his contribution on Wontumi TV’s Morning show, Mr Akom said the drone service apart from making healthcare service easy, it also assist in the educational sector by delivery of exams papers to some communities where accessibility was a challenge, islands.

The initiative championed by Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has seen an efficient and smart way of delivering emergency medical supplies to even remote areas in the country.

Mr. George Akom enumerated the significant contributions of the service in Ghana especially Sekyere Afram Plains.

“I can’t stop commending this government, NDC is always interested in ‘win power policies’ but doesn’t think about the Ghanaian people. We lost great people that we could save their lives if drones were to be there as at that time”

“From Drobonso, the District capital to some communities has accessibility challenge but through drones healthcare and delivery of drugs is now easy, the drones picks exams papers to some communities on the island which is incredible”

Currently, Ghana has about six active drone centres and two more sets to open, to make the country the largest drone delivery service in the world.

In Ghana, Zipline Medical Drone Delivery Service which started in 2017, operates the service targets covering 2,000 health facilities that serve 12 million Ghanaians (of a population of just fewer than 30 million)—from small community clinics and vaccination centres to larger general hospitals.

At the launch of one of the centres in recent times, the Vice President who was passionate about the initiative said ““There is no reason why we should have people die out of snake bites in one particular district when Upper East is having Anti-snake serum and the Upper West which is just next to Upper East doesn’t have and it takes the Minister to come here and Upper East would tell him we have some Anti-snake in the stores. In addition to that, we also believe that there are some of commodities that you don’t have to even put in the medical stores. We will distribute them at the drone distribution centres”
