SHS 1 And 3 Students Free From DoubleTrack System – President Akufo-Addo Affirms

President Nana Akufo-Addo who was Speaking to Ghanaians on his 21st address on the COVID-19 and monitored by Wontumionline.com said first and third year students in Senior High Schools would be exempted from the double track system when school resumes in the new academic year. “

He however, stressed that ,” the double track system will still be applicable to SHS 2 students in schools that are employing it. Students in universities and other tertiary institutions are to be in school from Saturday, 9thJanuary.

According to the President,, the massive improvement of existing facilities in the various Senior High Schools has brought the country closer to solving the infrastructural challenges facing the various institutions.

“The expansion of infrastructure at the various senior high schools, over the last three (3) years, has brought us to this favorable situation.” He said.

”All SHS 1 students will start classes from 10th March, with all students embarking on a single-track academic calendar. Their seniors in SHS 2 and SHS 3 will, however, return to school from 18th January. I must stress that SHS 3 students in all schools, like SHS 1 students, will no longer run the double track system.” He noted.

On measures taken to curb the spread of the coronavirus President Akufo-Addo said that, the government, through the Ministries of information and Education, as well as the Ghana Health Service will from today (Monday 4th January) embark on an elaborate sensitization campaign to help prepare, inform and educate guardians, students and other sections of society on how best to control the spread of the COVID-19, when the schools resumption time table gets underway.

According to him, the social distancing and the wearing of the nose masks must be the norm and tasked the students to strictly adhere to the COVID-19 protocols..

“Our scientists have told us that, the genetic makeup of the pandemic has still not changed. Ghana Health Service with the support of relevant institutions will monitor the situation and advise government accordingly.” He revealed

Meanwhile, the President has indicated that, the active cases of the coronavirus in the country stands at 879 with a death toll of 336.
