Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has admitted that the free Senior High School (SHS) policy came with its own challenges but the government of President Akufo-Addo is dealing with it.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has admonished Prof. Jane Nanaa Opoku-Agyemang to be circumspect when airing her views on the free SHS policy started by the government of President Akufo-Addo.
1.25 million Ghanaian children, are now attending secondary school as a result of the free SHS the minister said.
For this reason, the Education Minister cautioned Prof. Jane Nanaa Opoku-Agyemang not to use any opportunity she gets to bastardize the efforts of the Akufo-Addo led government in the progress it has chalked when it comes to education.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, a former Educational Minister and running mate to Mr. John Mahama in the 2020 elections, recently stirred controversy by stating that students who recently wrote their final WASCE exams in Ghana, cheated to pass.
But Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum entreated her to step out of her comfort zone before looking down on the policy.
“If you visit typical villages in Ghana, people who can’t afford school fees in the past now have their children attending secondary schools for free”, the Minister of Education said.
The minister however admitted that despite the challenges the free SHS has come with, the government of Nana Akufo-Addo is doing everything possible to rectify it.
